Will Moving BDA Servers from One Position in a Rack to Another Cause the Private IP Addresses of Those Cluster Hosts to Change? (Doc ID 2932070.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 5.2.0 and later

Goal

If BDA servers need to be moved from their current position in the rack to another, the question addressed in this note is, will the private IP addresses i.e. Infiniband addresses of those cluster nodes need to change. This is a critical question because changing private IP addresses of cluster hosts compromises the cluster.

An example of such a server move would be if servers are removed from the middle of a rack and then to maintain physical rack stability (verses letting the rack become top-heavy), servers from the top of the rack would be moved to the middle positions.  But this could be done only if the move does not cause the private IP address of the moved cluster hosts to change.
