LOB Space Issue When ASSM Tablespace Is Being Used (Doc ID 2935966.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 19.3.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Constant increase of space used by the LOB segment in case of ASSM tablespaces.
LOB storage clause is with RETENTION NONE, that uses the most aggressive algorithm to release unused space.
Issue seen in older versions like 12c, 19c (with good results when "COMMIT" clause is introduced, but issue resurfaces when clause is removed) and with good results in newer releases like 21c.
The issue doesn't show up if data are stored on an ASSM tablespace that is created as BIGFILE, or if MSSM tablespaces are being used.
