SSL Encryption Doesn't Work for cellnode (Doc ID 2948615.1)

Last updated on JUNE 28, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version 21.2.6.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Our Exadata machines are configured to send emails alerts if something goes wrong either on DB Nodes or on Cell nodes.
We want to send email alert messages in encrypted form, therefore we want to enable smtpUseSSL on the cells and dbnodes.
We are using port 25 which is capable of sending encrypted messages, I'm going to show you in the attached testcase.

1, If we switch this parameter to ENABLE on the dbnodes we get the emails.
2, If we switch this parameter to ENABLE on the cells we don't get any emails at all.

We used tcpdump to see, what packages arrive on eth0 and we observed, that when we switch the parameter to ENABLE on the cells, unknown IP address is used by the cellcli.
When we did the same on the dbnodes, our email gateway is used as designed.
