Last updated on OCTOBER 27, 2017

Applies to:

HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS VAX

Symptoms

When trying to add a user to the Oracle schema within an Rdb v7.x database, the following error is received;

$ @sSYS$LIBRARY:RDB_NATCONN.COM ADDUSER
Database: <db_name>
Username: SCOTT
Password:
Password Verification:
Username:
%RDB-E-NOTINVOKED, routine ORA_LOG.ORA_LOGIN cannot be invoked
-RDMS-E-RTN_INVALID, routine can not be invoked - it is marked invalid
%RDB-E-EXTFUN_FAIL, external routine failed to compile or execute successfully
-RDMS-E-RTN_ERROR, routine "ORA_ENCRYPT_PASSWORD" generated an error during execution
-SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual
address=0000000000000104,PC=0000000001824820, PS=0000001B

The user is being added by using the SQL/Services v7.1.x script SYS$LIBRARY:RDB_NATCONN.COM with the ADDUSER argument. As such, the user cannot be added, and cannot access the Rdb database using Oracle OCI-based client software.

The RDB_NATCONN.COM script can be successfully used on other Rdb databases.
