Purpose
Performance problems are generally hard to resolve, but it becomes even more difficult if we do not know where to look for the right information.
Collecting the right diagnostic information is most important first step in solving a problem.
Different kind of performance issues warrants collection of different information. This document intends to cover some of the most commonly encountered performance problems by Oracle Support, and advices what information should be collected for each of these issues. It can be used as a checklist to simply gather information and files usually requested by Oracle Support in order to solve a RDBMS performance issues, or it can be utilized as a process which walks the reader through common steps of the troubleshooting process for RDBMS related performance issues.
While following this process, you may solve your performance issue. If not, you will have gathered the standard information and files required to pursue its resolution. The next step is analyzing this information. We do NOT cover this in this document.
