error when using ssh and cluvfy: User equivalence check failed for user (Doc ID 341607.1)

Symptoms

When checking the node connectivity in steps from the installation manual:

Oracle Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide
10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit)
Part Number B14205-01
2.7 Checking the Network Setup with CVU

This command is run:

/dev/dvdrom/clusterware/cluvfy/runcluvfy.sh comp nodecon -n node1,node2 -verbose

If the following error is found:

Checking user equivalence...
Check: User equivalence for user "oracle"
  Node Name                             Comment
  ------------------------------------  ------------------------
  node1                                failed
Result: User equivalence check failed for user "oracle".

And using the steps for troubleshooting the user equivalence check in section 4.1.1 “Troubleshooting Oracle Clusterware Setup” did not result in success, then SSH may not have been properly set up.
