'ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size' On 'open resetlogs' During Incomplete Recovery (Doc ID 356191.1)

Symptoms

While trying to restore an RMAN backup taken on RAC ASM instance into a different non ASM instance and doing a point in time recovery

The open resetlogs operation fails in the RMAN  script with the following errors

 

RMAN> alter database open resetlogs;
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of alter db command at 01/31/2006 02:52:48
ORA-00349: failure obtaining block size for '+<GROUP_NAME>/<PATH>/onlinelog/<FILE_NAME>.log'
