Oracle XML DB feature provides the Oracle XML DB protocol server. This supports standard Internet protocols FTP, WebDAV, and HTTP, for accessing the XDB repository.
The XDB protocol server is not required for standard database functionality. However, it is required if you intend to access the XDB repository via FTP, HTTP or WebDAV connection.
