Goal

The goal of this document is to describe how to enable or disable archiving for version 10G and newer databases.

Currently your database is in NoArchive Log mode and you would like to turn Archiving on. You understand that Log_Archive_Start parameter is deprecated in 10g. You did not find any article for how to enable Archive log mode in 10g. All articles deal with 9i or earlier Oracle versions and talk about the 3 archive log mode parameters to be enabled.

NOTE:
Prior to changing the archive status of the database a clean backup should be accomplished after the database has been gracefully shutdown via shutdown normal or shutdown immediate.
