The goal of this note is to clarify for customers the use of the -PFILE / -SPFILE options with oradim.

When creating the Windows service (using oradim) required to start an Oracle instance and using the -pfile option an entry is created for ORA_<SID>_PFILE  in the Windows registry.   What happens when you leave off the -pfile option?   Is there a way to specify using the spfile instead?
