Goal

Starting with Oracle8i it is possible to arrange for DBMS_STATS to automatically gather Optimizer statistics for only those objects currently considered STALE since the last time statistics were gathered for them.

This article will explain how staleness is determined and whether it is possible to influence the staleness threshold.
