Purpose

To provide helpful information related to the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA).

Scope


Anyone needing assistance using the DBCA tool for release 10.2.X on hp OpenVMS. This is intended to
supplement the information already available in the VMS specific Installation and Administration guides.
This note covers both the Alpha and Itanium platforms.

 Tip 1. Use UNIX style syntax for all paths.
 Tip 2. DBCA logs database creation
 Tip 3. DBCA will enable flash recovery by default and place the archive logs in the directory specified by db_recovery_file_dest.
 Tip 4. DBCA can be started from OUI.
 Tip 5. DBCA can be used to generate database creation scripts that you can then modify and run manually.
 Tip 6. Using DBCA to delete a database does not remove 100% of the database related files.
 Tip 7. Define the OpenVMS logical ora_db_nonrac_install if you are NOT creating a RAC db.

 Tip 10. DBCA creates the redo log files with a .log extension.
 Tip 11.  The SID must be 6 or fewer characters.
 Tip 12. DBCA database templates are seeded from 10.2.0.2 database format.
