CLOBS Oracle Net

Symptoms

Performance of CLOBS can be poor/slow when using Oracle Net.
Typically a Oracle Net client trace will show a delay in the timestamp, reported in two areas.

On Basic read

[000001 17-JAN-2006 10:22:40:997] nttrd: entry
[000001 17-JAN-2006 10:22:41:013] nttrd: socket 292 had bytes read=15
Between Receive and Send

[000001 17-JAN-2006 10:22:41:325] nioqrc: exit
[000001 17-JAN-2006 10:22:54:014] nioqsn: entr

These delays are repeated often, slowing down response time. Changing SDU or arraysize will not assist here.
Database stats pack report can report high value for "SQL*Net message from Client"
