Goal

How to determine when an RMAN failure occurs, if the error is being raised in the Media Manager Layer or not.

When RMAN fails and a media manager is also being used, it is often difficult to determine where exactly the failure is occurring. This note is intended to help DBAs to identify whether the cause of the error lies within Oracle or within the Media Manager Layer and will help to expedite resolution by ensuring that if help is needed, a support call is raised at the correct Support Organisation.
