This situation can occur in any UNIX or Linux environment, at any time. It is most often noticed by Oracle DBAs while using the "opatch" utility.
Symptoms
You are encountering “permission denied” errors or "cannot determine current directory" errors when your Oracle RDBMS partition is involved. Every test to create, edit, touch, remove, and access the same partition manually seems fine.
