Symptoms

Connections are dropped intermittently and / or new connections are rejected intermittently once Service Pack 1 for Windows 2003 is installed. LSNRCTL commands may also fail with TNS-12547 "Lost contact" or with TNS-12537 "Connection closed".

Listener traces show OS-level problems related to lack of buffer space :

 

Changes

Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1) or 2 (SP2) has been installed recently, before problems started.
