ORA-12154 With Local (BEQUEATH) SQL*Plus Connection (Doc ID 430312.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to connect locally to the Oracle database (via the BEQ protocol), not using a connect string / TNS "alias," a TNS error is thrown even though TNS is never referenced.

The error may be similar to the following screen shot:

C:\Documents and Settings\oracle_test>sqlplus

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production on Mon May 7 14:54:09 2007

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Enter user-name: sys
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

Changes

The only change is that the password(s) for database access were changed.
