Symptoms

A SQL*Net connection fails immediately with the following error :

   $ sqlplus <USER>/<PASSWORD>@<TNS STRING>

   SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.2.0 - Production on Thu May 24 02:43:35 2007

   Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.

   ERROR:
   ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
