ORA-1031 with OS Authentication - '/ As Sysdba' After Patch Set Upgrade (Doc ID 435947.1)

Symptoms

After upgrading to a higher patchset and when performing the post installation scripts, new database connections using OS authentication (as in the following connect string) fail with the following error:

connect / as sysdba

ORA-01031: insufficient privileges Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.


Connections using password file authentication (as in the following connect string) are successful:

connect sys/password as sysdba



Changes

Upgraded database version to higher patchset
- No changes has been made to Oracle permission
- User entries in configured correctly /etc/group
