On a RAC cluster with two or more cluster nodes running Oracle ASM, in addition to Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS), you may experience a failure mounting the ASM Diskgroup on the node(s) that do NOT host the MSCS Cluster Groups. The failure to mount the diskgroups will manifest in the form of the following errors within the ASM instance:
ORA-15040 : diskgroup is incomplete
ORA-15042 : ASM disk "2" is missing
Note that disk "2" may be any disk in the diskgroup.
The problem described in this note is specific to RAC on the Windows platform, where Microsoft Cluster Server is also installed. Note that RAC does NOT require Microsoft Cluster Server - however, the two products can coexist, as described in <Note:289836.1>.
