Symptoms

 


Runinstaller is not able to create the nodename directory under the sys$login parent directory.

Shown below is the actual error text.


Enter scratchPath: DKA1:[TMP_ORACLE10]
%CREATE-E-DIRNOTCRE, DISK1:[ORACLE10G.RXVMS1] directory file not created
-RMS-F-DEV, error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation
%DCL-E-OPENOUT, error opening DISK1:[ORACLE10G.RXVMS1]ORAINST.LOC; as output

In the above error text example, the nodename is RXVMS1 and the value of sys$login is
DISK1:[ORACLE10G].  In this example, the device named DISK1 does not exist..
