Legacy EXP/IMP file used in Datapump Import Receives error - ORA-39000: Bad Dump File Specification (Doc ID 462261.1)

Symptoms

Using a legacy export dump file, and importing into a 10g or greater instance using Data Pump import.


Is it possible to import a DUMP file, taken on an older Oracle version, using IMPDP?

EXAMPLE:

Exporting a table '<TABLE NAME>' using the traditional export.

exp system/<PASSWORD> file=exp.dmp tables=<OWNER>.<TABLE NAME> log=exp.log
Export: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Fri Oct 5 11:31:22 2007
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
Export done in WE8MSWIN1252 character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set

Tried to Import using IMPDP but it failed.

ORA-39001: invalid argument value
ORA-39000: bad dump file specification
ORA-31640: unable to open dump file "<FILE PATH>\dpdump EXP.DMP" for read
ORA-27041: unable to open file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

Then Imported using traditional import which succeeded.

imp system/<PASSWORD> file=exp.dmp tables=<TABLE NAME> FROMUSER=<USER NAME> TOUSER=<USER NAME>
Import: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Fri Oct 5 11:53:06 2007
