Symptoms

Selecting from a table in Sybase with a name longer than 28 characters using Database Gateway for Sybase 11.1.0.6 on Linux gives the following error -

SELECT * FROM "TABLENAME_LONGER_THAN_28_CHARS"@sybase ;

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this
message:
[Oracle][ODBC Sybase Wire Protocol driver][SQL Server]The identifier that
starts with '"TABLENAME_LONGER_THAN_28_CHA' is too long. Maximum length is 28.
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from SYBASE

Sybase allows object names to be upto 30 characters in length.

The same select works successfully using Transparent Gateway for Sybase 10.2.
