Rman Duplicate fails with ORA-19870 ORA-19587 ORA-17507 (Doc ID 469132.1)

Symptoms

+ Trying to duplicate the database on a different server using rman.

+ Both the prod & test boxes are Oracle enterprise edition 10.2.0. 3.0

+ Both the prod & test boxes have Solaris 5.10.

+ The filesystems configured are managed by Veritas or Solstice Disk Suite software

+ Rman Duplicate fails with ORA-19870 ORA-19587 ORA-17507

channel ORA_AUX_DISK_1: reading from backup piece
/PATH/tape/20071105/<FILE_NAME>.bks
ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /PATH/tape/20071105/<FILE_NAME>.bks
ORA-19587: error occurred reading 0 bytes at block number 1
ORA-17507: I/O request size 0 is not a multiple of logical block size

 

+ RESTORE VALIDATE does not report any of the above errors.

Changes

If your Sun Sparc Solaris 64-bit server has file systems configured that are managed by Veritas or Solstice Disk Suite software and your 10.2.0.x database(s) are located on these files ystems, you will run into this problem after installing the 10.2.0.3 patchset.
