Intermittent TNS-12533 Errors When Connecting to RAC Databases (Doc ID 472394.1)

Symptoms

1) Connections to RAC are intermittently failing with the following error:  TNS-12533: TNS Illegal address parameters.  You might observe the following in the sqlnet.log file at the client:

Fatal NI connect error 12533, connecting to:
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTO=TCP)(HOST=<VIP-Hostname>)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME =ARDI)(CID=(PROGRAM=C:\Oracle\8i\bin\SQLPLUS.EXE)(HOST=<Client_Hostname>)(USER=xxxx))))
