Text Wildcard Query Fails with DRG-51030 Error (Doc ID 473245.1)

Symptoms

A text wildcard query returns ODCIIndexStart() and DRG-51030 error.

Example:

SELECT <something>
FROM <table_name>
WHERE CONTAINS (text, 'boo%') > 0;
select ... from ... where contains (text ,'boo%') > 0
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29902: error in executing ODCIIndexStart() routine
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-51030: wildcard query expansion resulted in too many terms


Problem still persists after setting WILDCARD_MAXTERMS to 15000 and the index was rebuilt.
