ASM Using OS Files Instead of Real Raw Devices On Windows. (Doc ID 602620.1)

Last updated on MAY 18, 2009

Applies to:

Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.1.0.2 to 11.2.0.1
Oracle Server - Standard Edition - Version: 10.1.0.2 to 11.2
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Goal

a) The present document provides an example about how to emulate cooked OS files to be used as ASM disk on Windows.

b) Keep in mind using fake files (cooked files) for ASM diskgroups is not supported and ASM could not work as expected, this is only intended for testing and ASM learning. On production environments, real raw devices are required.
