Starting 10gR2 Listener Yields: TNS-12547, TNS-12560, TNS-00517, Error: 131 Errors (Doc ID 603806.1)

The issue documented here is limited to the following situation:

Problem reported when /etc/nsswitch.conf file had NIS+ configured with line:

publickey: nisplus

If this line is changed to read below (disabling NIS+), the 10g TNS Listener starts without error:

publickey: files

Symptoms

Problem Statement:
Server: Oracle10g R2 (10.2.0.3) on Sun Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-bit) 10

The TNS Listener fails to start with the error message below:

Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(Host=mysunsrvr.us.oracle.com)(Port=1521))
TNS-12547: TNS:lost contact
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00517: Lost contact
Solaris Error: 131: Connection reset by peer



Steps To Reproduce:
mysunsrvr.% lsnrctl start
