RDBPROD: Procedure To Recover DBMS RUJ Files After Database Close (Doc ID 63115.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle CODASYL DBMS - Version 4.0a and later
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

Goal

When databases are closed with the DBO/CLOSE/CLUSTER/ABORT=DELPRC or DBO/CLOSE/ABORT=DELPRC command, there is the need to recover any and all outstanding RUJ files. RUJs are normally recovered when the first process attempts to access the database and the monitor finds that recovery is necessary. Therefore, if you attempt to open the database with a DBO/OPEN, the monitor will start the recovery processes on the existing RUJ files. The amount of time needed to do the recovery process depends upon how many and how large the files are.

NOTE: using /FORCEX instead of DELPRC will cause all recoveries to run as part of the close, but cannot force an exit of a database process with a spawned subprocess or a suspended process. It aborts batch jobs that are using the database.
