RDBPROD: What is a Data Source and How Do I Create One? (Doc ID 65133.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb - Version 2.10.17 and later
Generic Windows

Goal

ODBC provides a level of indirection between the ODBC application and the database implementation. This is done through something called a Data Source. The ODBC application doesn't know anything about the server node, the network transport, etc. It knows only that it's source of data will be referenced by a particular name. That particular name is called the data source.
