RDBPROD: How to do a BY AREA Rdb Database Backup (Doc ID 65365.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 5.1 and later
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

Goal

One of the choices you can make when backing up an Rdb database is to do a BY AREA backup.  You can do this kind of backup with the database either ONLINE or OFFLINE.  (See specific articles or the Rdb documentation for more details on ONLINE and OFFLINE backups.)

A BY AREA backup differs from a FULL backup in that the BY AREA backup will only backup the specific database areas specified on the backup command.  The remaining areas are not backed up.
