RDBPROD: How to do an INCREMENTAL Rdb Backup (Doc ID 65366.1)

Last updated on APRIL 16, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 3.0 and later
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

Goal

One of the choices available when backing up a Rdb database is to do an INCREMENTAL backup. This can be done with the database ONLINE or OFFLINE (See specific articles or the Rdb documentation for more details on ONLINE vs OFFLINE backups).

An INCREMENTAL Backup differs from a full backup in that the incremental backup will only backup database pages that were modified since the last full backup. In an INCREMENTAL Backup, unmodified pages are not backed up.
