This bulletin gives you the steps to successfully export from a replicated database to be imported into a database to be used for replication.

This article was written for DBAs who want to add a new master site to a replication environment or want to use offline instantiation to recreate a replication environment. This article is for everyone, who would like to create a new master site, which will be part of multi-master replication environment. This article can also be used when setting up a new master site in hybrid (multi-master/ snapshot) environment. This article CANNOT be used to offline instantiate snapshot sites. With offline instantiation, we try to :

- minimize "downtime" on existing masters

- minimize network traffic

This procedure has been tested with Oracle versions 8.0.6, 8.1.5 and 8.1.6, but it should work fine with 8.0.5 as well, although it has not been tested. Note: Replication Manager cannot be used to offline instantiate master sites.

This document assumes that there's a database with a replication environment already setup (Master definition site), with all necessary users, database links and replicated group. Also, your new site should have all necessary users and database links available.

This can be done with replication API or with Replication Manager GUI.If you need help with the setup, see the following notes:
