Goal

This document outlines how to change the default parameters in use for gathering optimizer statistics in Oracle 10g and provides an outline of the values possible for these parameters. This is useful when using automatic statistics gathering within a maintenance window, as these default parameter settings define how these statistics will be collected.

Please note that DBMS_STATS.SET_PARAM and DBMS_STATS.GET_PARAM are deprecated and have been replaced by improved technology. They have been  maintained only for purposes of backward compatibility.
For 11g please use SET_GLOBAL_PREFS and DBMS_STATS.GET_PREFS
