RDBPROD: What to do with RMU/UNLOAD and LOAD when tables do not match

(Doc ID 737628.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 09, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.0 and later
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS VAX

Goal

To use RMU/UNLOAD and RMU/LOAD when the table to be loaded into and the source table have different numbers of columns.

For example:

SQL> show table(columns) u_load
Information for table U_LOAD

Columns for table U_LOAD:
Column Name Data Type Domain
----------- --------- ------
U1 CHAR(1)
U2 CHAR(2)
SQL> show table(columns) l_load
Information for table L_LOAD

Columns for table L_LOAD:
Column Name Data Type Domain
----------- --------- ------
U1 CHAR(1)
U2 CHAR(2)
U3 CHAR(2)

Any attempt to try and perform a simple RMU/LOAD would fail with:

%RMU-F-FLDMUSMAT, Specified fields must match in number and datatype with the unloaded data
