Purpose
When using XMLTYPE columns stored as CLOBs it is possible to speed up query via the use of functional indexes. Attempting to do this with an XMLTYPE column stored as BINARY XML does not always work. This document identifies other indexing strategies that can be used in their place.

This document refers to features in 11g and is applicable to application developers looking to improve the performance of extract queries from tables using BINARY XML Storage
