A DBA will need to ... at times ... drop a datafile from a tablespace
This became a much easier task beginning in 10.1 when the
ALTER TABLESPACE ... DROP DATAFILE
command was introduced
If a datafile to be dropped contains extents an ORA-3262 will occur
ORA-3262: the file is non-empty
*Cause: Trying to drop a non-empty datafile
*Action: Cannot drop a non empty datafile
This note is a case study showing how this error occurs and how to resolve it.
