Issuing Selects from PHP Using DG4ODBC Does Not Give Correct Results And Error - Ora-1002 (Doc ID 753321.1)

Symptoms

A Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) connection to SQL*Server has been successfully created and selects run from SQLPLUS give the correct results.
However, running the same the select in a PHP procedure does not give the correct results. Tracing from PHP shows an error -

Warning: oci_fetch_row() [function.oci-fetch-row]: ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence ORA-02063:
preceding line from DBLINK in E:\php_dir\test_script.php on line 27
