Installing Database Vault in a Data Guard Environment (Doc ID 754065.1)

Last updated on APRIL 24, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Database Vault - Version 10.2.0.3 to 12.1.0.2 [Release 10.2 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document is intended to help customers install Oracle Database Vault in a Data Guard physical standby environment.

Scope

It covers both 11g and 10g releases of Oracle Database Vault. This document is not a replacement for the Database Vault Installation Guide or the operating system-specific Oracle Installation Guide. Customers still need to refer to these guides as well as the release notes and the Data Guard documentation to get all the information they need.

As of 12.1, the instructions for installing Data Vault with additional products are in the DV Admin Guide. These instructions include the steps for installing DV in a Data Guard environment:

http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/DVADM/dv_ols.htm#DVADM71378

As of version 11.2 Database Vault is included in any Enterprise Edition installation of Oracle Database. The exact process outlined in this document for installing and configuring Database Vault is not necessary when using Oracle RDBMS 11.2. When enabling or configuring Database Vault on 11.2 or higher in an environment that includes Data Guard physical standby databases, one just has to turn on Database Vault on both the primary and the standby environments at the binary level(using the make command) and then perform all the metadata configuration on the primary database. The redo containing these changes will be applied to the physical standby databases via standard Data Guard media recovery.
