RDBPROD: Hot Standby Fails To Start

(Doc ID 758236.1)

Last updated on MAY 25, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.1 and later
Oracle CODASYL DBMS - Version 7.1 and later
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS Alpha

In a hot standby configuration, replication is started first on the standby, and then the master. Switching the master and standby requires that replication be stopped and restarted.  According to the Guide to Hot Standby, replication may be stopped from either the master or standby. However, if replication is stopped from the standby side, and then restarted with the standby now master, the startup will fail with:

%RDMS-F-CANTSTARTLCS, error starting AIJ Log Catch-Up Server process
-RDMS-F-FULLAIJBKUP, partially-journaled changes made; database may not be recoverable

Stopping replication on the standby and switching master/standby.
