Symptoms
In a hot standby configuration, replication is started first on the standby, and then the master. Switching the master and standby requires that replication be stopped and restarted. According to the Guide to Hot Standby, replication may be stopped from either the master or standby. However, if replication is stopped from the standby side, and then restarted with the standby now master, the startup will fail with:
