Purpose

When the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) encounters an Operating System (OS) that it is not familiar with, it displays an error, and terminates.

The primary purpose of this NOTE is to provide an understanding to Oracle Customers of why the OUI is designed to behave this way, and what options the Customer has to handle the OUI's behavior.

A secondary purpose of this NOTE is to list (to reference) the specific My Oracle Support NOTEs that exist to document this common OUI response during specific RDBMS / OS install attempts.

Scope

This NOTE will be useful to DBAs that are attempting to install any RDBMS version on any OS, and are encountering the OUI error message:
