Symptoms

You started an export using the traditional export utility (EXP)::

#> exp scott/tiger file=exp.dmp log=exp.log

and this failed with errors:

Connected to: Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.8.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.8.0 - Production
Export done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
server uses WE8DEC character set (possible charset conversion)
About to export the scott user
. . exporting table DEPT 137 rows exported
. . exporting table COL 21 rows exported
Table EMP will be exported in conventional path.
