Using Oracle Net Server to Trace the Archiver Process
(Doc ID 790283.1)
Last updated on MARCH 31, 2022
Applies to:
Oracle Net Services - Version 9.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.4 [Release 9.2 to 11.2]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Goal
During archive log shipment between primary and standby databases, the archiver process can fail with Oracle Net related errors such as Tns-12571, Ora-3113, Ora-3135, Ora-3136,etc.
Oracle Net server tracing can be enabled to help narrow down / resolve the point of failure. This is done by editing the SQLNET.ORA file being used for the Oracle home / Databases. The drawback is that database background processes only read the SQLNET.ORA file when they are created. This means the database needs to be restarted and that all database background processes and all connections to the database will be traced as well. And untill such time as the processes are stopped and the database shutdown, they will continue to trace.
This document explains how to workaround this issue.
