During read, write, or move operation, Oracle Secure Backup (OSB) reports an unrecoverable error. This type error message is associated with an OSB Backup but instead an error reported by the tape device and reported to the user by OSB.
If OSB reports an unrecoverable error by the device during an operation, the user should investigate the situation to determine if the media (tape) is bad or the drive is problematic. The error was communicated to OSB by the tape device which could not perform the operation so OSB temporally takes the device out of service.
The media will remain in the device. Since the error could relate to a bad tape or a problem drive, OSB will NOT take the tape out of rotation or permanently disable the drive for use. If the user does not investigate the error, then a "bad" tape could go back into rotation and continue generating error messages thereby slowing the backup process.
