How to Manually Create an Oracle Context in Active Directory (Doc ID 820134.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 21, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Net Services - Version 10.2.0.4.0 to 11.2.0.4 [Release 10.2 to 11.2]
Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows Itanium (64-bit)
This procedure is ONLY applicable to Oracle 11.1.0.7 and higher, and has been tested on Windows 2003 and 2008.

Goal

In the event of NetCA failing to create an Oracle Context in Active Directory, steps can be taken to manually install the Oracle Context.

Manually creating a context is (almost) no different than having netca create it - we use the same commands.  The main advantage is the command line method will report appropriate operating system errors should something go wrong with the import.  These errors can be researched to resolution.

A backup of Active Directory or a full system backup should be considered before performing these steps.  Backup instructions can be found on Microsoft's TechNet site.

Special care has been taken to ensure this method of context creation replicates the functionality of NetCA.  However, NetCA is the only supported tool to create an Oracle Context.
