While running multiple ODP.NET enabled applications on the same machine you may want to configure each application with a different set of configuration settings. In ODP.NET 11g and later there are multiple locations that can be used to specify an application's configuration settings. The following list shows their order of precedence:
- registry (machine-wide for a particular version of ODP.NET)
- machine.config (.NET Framework-wide, there are different machine.config files for different .NET Framework versions)
- app.config / web.config
- connection string
The higher the number the higher the precedence of these configuration settings should they be specified. For example, setting tracing parameters in the web.config would override setting them in the registry.
The information below will show you how to configure web application settings that would turn on tracing using your web.config file under .NET Framework 1.x and 2.x.
