Applies to:

Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Trace file or alert log shows ORA-04031 errors.

You are running sql with full outer joins.

If subpools are configured you may see an imbalance in the pools

example:
select KSMCHIDX "SubPool", sum(ksmchsiz) Bytes from x$ksmsp
 group by ksmchidx;

SubPool BYTES
---------- ----------
3 822079272
2 889187784
1 2516569200  <== may see on subpool growing large

Note: it is not recommended to run queries on X$KSMSP when the DB is under load. You can experience severe performance impact or even complete database hang situations, especially with very large SGAs. You are STRONGLY recommended not run these queries unless given specific instructions from Oracle Global Software Support to do so.
