How to resolve SQL Loader skipping records and it says the column is too long (Doc ID 842503.1)

Goal

This goal walks you through in resolving SQL Loader keeps skipping records periodically issues.  It says the column it's trying to insert into is too long, but it's not.

Keep getting records being rejected from SQL*Loader for being too long.  Increased the value of the column to 2,000 bytes and even when the field send is only 250 bytes and says it's too long.

Get the following error:

Value used for ROWS parameter changed from 500 to 19
Record 19: Rejected - Error on table XXGVI.GVIEO_PAYMENTS, column PJ_NOTES.
Field in data file exceeds maximum length
