RMAN uses the sys user to take the backup internally. Even if RMAN backup was done using different user than sys user.

In this example, we are using a different user other than the 'sys' user:

rman target <username>/<password>
Recovery Manager: Release - Production on Sat Jul 4 00:09:51 2009
Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle. All rights reserved.
connected to target database: <dbname> (DBID=<dbid>)

Username in v$session shows sys for RMAN session:

SQL> select sid,username from v$session where UPPER(MODULE) like 'RMAN%';

---------- ------------------------------
115         SYS
130         SYS
