Symptoms

You started SQL*Loader to transfer the data from an ASCII flat file to a database table and received an error, like the following test demonstrates:

-- create a table
connect test/test
drop table a_tab;
create table a_tab
(
   id number,
   text varchar2(10)
);

-- write the control file ldr.ctl
load data
infile *
truncate
into table a_tab
fields terminated by ';' optionally enclosed by ""
trailing nullcols
(
   id,
   text
)
begindata
1;Text 1
2;Text 2

Start SQL*Loader with:

#> sqlldr test/test control=ldr.ctl

and the written log file contains:

Record 1: Rejected - Error on table A_TAB, column ID.
second enclosure string not present
Record 2: Rejected - Error on table A_TAB, column ID.
second enclosure string not present
